ONCE NOTHING - "Earthmover" EP - Biography 2007

Self-described as “blue-collar metal,” Pittsburgh Pennsylvania’s Once Nothing exemplify that moniker perfectly, embodying the grit and glory of the Steel City, possessing an unrivaled work ethic and a rarely paralleled song-craft.

In 2006, the band self-released the CD Voice of the Paragon, causing a stir that led to Alternative Press naming Once Nothing its “Unsigned Band of the Month” in May of that year. In the six short months following that release, the band sold over 2,000 copies of Paragon by staying on the road non-stop and selling them solely at shows, without the help of distribution.

In describing the concept of “blue-collar metal,” vocalist Todd Lowry explains, “Our mentality now and in the past has always been to tour as much as is humanly possible and show people what this is all about.”

Knowing that actions speak louder than words, the band proceeded to play 250 shows in 2006 alone. That kind of relentless perseverance and drive has resulted in an ever-expanding fanbase that devoured Paragon and is clamoring for the band’s next release.

Always eager to please their existing fans, as well as stun new ones, Once Nothing are proud to present Earthmover, a churning, brutal blend of hardcore, metal and southern rock that is set to turn the hardcore scene upside down with its uncanny precision, exquisite execution and defiance of genre. With the precision and polish of a band that takes its craft seriously, Once Nothing have achieved the difficult task that few bands before them have done – creating a metal record that will be loved not only by metal fans, but also by those who typically do not like metal.

Upon the completion of the band’s CI Records debut – and the finest record of Once Nothing’s burgeoning career – Lowry becomes slightly more introspective. “We try to give people the best possible songs that we can,” he explains. “By combining the best elements of metal and rock and roll along with the occasional breakdown, we aim to make an album that will make people want to pump their fists in the air and celebrate being alive!”

As the hardcore/metal scene continues to become overpopulated with replicas of existing bands, Once Nothing is a shining example of Musical Darwinism – evolve or perish. Indeed, it is their unique spin on an overplayed genre that will leave Once Nothing not only still standing, but prospering long after others have faded away.

Earthmover hits stores July 24th, 2007.
